My name is Hal Lindsay and I've been a photographer here in Virginia since 1994, but that is only a small part of my story. My life as a photographer started as a science project in the sixth grade. From that time on I was hooked. In eighth grade I managed to convince the principal to allow me to go with our nationally acclaimed choir to Los Angels (and Disneyland) to cover the event. I believe that was the time I realized I could make it as a photographer. I took all the classes on photography I could while in high school and continued my passion on to college where I received a degree in fine arts with my emphasis on photography and a minor in business. I must have put a thousand rolls of film through that little 35mm camera those four years in Humboldt State.

As hard as the work was in college it was also some of the best times. Even so, all good things come to an end and it was out to the real world for me. I started working for a custom color lab, where I honed my skills managing color. Yet, I longed to be making my living as a photographer. I soon left the lab, took a pay cut and started working in Bullocks Portrait Studio. After several years in the studio I transferred to the traveling division where we would travel around the western states setting up a portable studio in credit unions and banks. I would then proceed to shoot thirty family portrait packages a day. I learned to work fast and see what was wrong with a pose in just a few seconds. These are skills I still use today.

As my reputation began to grow, and more clients began to ask for me personally, I began to feel I was ready to start out on my own. In 1983 I created the SilverMind Portrait Company. Although we are not a large company we are growing and now have several assistants to help when needed. I continue to stay involved in classes and seminars and continue to expand my knowledge of the art of photography.

We take into careful consideration any special requests to meet your particular photographic needs. We will work with you on every aspect of your wedding. From the florist and the caterer to the limousine service, we recommend just the right people to help make your wedding a success. On your wedding day we will coordinate with all of the people providing you with service to ensure a timely progression of your special day. Our goal is to provide you with the right service at the right time at the right price.
